Kaamospelit - folk music in Vantaa 2011

21st Kaamospelit, the Vantaa folk music week, is held 12.-20.11.2011. Program is quite Nordic this year. We are going to take influences from Nu-Nordic music scene also in forthcoming years. Here you'll find the festival program 2011 in English. More information about the artists, the history of the festival etc. in Finnish.

YHTÄ SOITTOA

Folk music groups from Vantaa and the neighbour cities and groups from the Vantaa music institute perform in the shopping centre.

Sunday 13.11. at 12 St. Lawrence's church (Pyhän Laurin kirkko), Kirkkotie 45
FOLK SONG CHURCH

Church service, where the songs are sung to the melodies of familiar folk songs. In Finnish. Liturgy: Tiina Komulainen, cantor Simo Santaranta. Vantaan kansanpelimannit accompanies.

CHURCH CONCERT
Nord String Quartet

NSQ is 2010 found new Finnish Swedish string quartet. They play peaces which combines the traditional music and camber music from Nordic countries.

Old singing and poetry from Karelia by Tellu Turkka (singing, Mora harp & udu) & Liisa Matveinen (singing & kantele). Strong 5-string fiddling by Emilia & Suvi.

Traditional Finnish fairy tails accompanied with songs, playing and rhymes.

Emilia Amper and Vidar Skrede Dynamo Band

Emilia Amper is the world champion of nyckelharpa playing 2010.
Dynamo band plays Skrede's compositions, fusion of Norwegian-Finnish folk music. Vidar Skrede, fiddle & hardangerfiddle; Pilvi Järvelä, harmonium & Jani Kivelä, cittern

Pelimanni Big Band (n.60 musicians) conducted by Pekka Pentikäinen ja Raimo Nummela, Vantaa music institute's accordion group conducted by Kimmo Kola, Espoon pelimannit conducted by Pekka Pentikäinen, Spelarit conducted by Patrik Weckman, Vantaan kansanpelimannit conducted by Raimo Nummela. Host Inkeri Simola-Isaksson.
